HECTOR VILLARROEL
The pictorial work of Hector Villarroel, Chilean artist, with long and shorter sojourns in Spain, is characterized by a structural composition inclining to the geometric, while retaining references to contemporary images. Generally working systematically in oil, he alludes rather than imposes excessive material. In addition to the geometric aspect that accents the primitive, his composition is neither static nor hierarchical but completely flexible and suggestive, giving it ability to transform reality as well as the feeling of depth and perspective that gives his work such vigor.
With his choice of hot colors in all the shades of ochre, purples, reds, blues in oil on canvas Hector nourishes shapes either masculine or feminine in a wide range of attitudes. Hector Villarroel is an artist who enjoys dialectics and controversy, in the sense of reflecting the times and his personal convictions through his work. Characterized by a minute technical work and a mastery of color that supports concept, sometimes a bit hard, but direct and sincere.
